Room Design and Home Office Organization

Gaile also said, “I live and work out of a very small apartment. We were able to create a room design that is both very functional and aesthetically pleasing-no small feat!

Organizing Experts: As she said, Gaile lives and works in a small apartment. Her living area, dining area and home office are all in one room. After sorting through all her paperwork and creating new files and new storage for her papers, we rearranged the furniture. We moved her desk to the window area and the dining table to the corner which is closer to the kitchen. She now can enjoy working at her desk with the natural light and also enjoy the nice view. The new arrangement really opened up the space and she is now inspired to re-paint the entire room which will help define the three different areas of the room.

Home Office Organization

This office was cluttered with paper that was not current and not necessary to keep. We
evaluated everything and created storage solutions for everything that was necessary for him
to have accessible. The closet was used for samples needed for his customers, a pigeon-hole
container for all brochures and the filing cabinet for storing important documents. These
solutions  allowed his desk to be cleared so he can actually use it!  This system allows him
space to store and keep all paperwork that is important and valuable for his everyday business.

Craft Room Organization


This is a beautiful room that is being used for crafts and sewing. Both of these hobbies require
a lot of supplies and storage is always a problem. We utilized a cupboard for material and the
sewing table for supplies which cleared the top and made it easy to use on a daily basis. The
craft supplies were stored by category in the pull-out drawers in the rolling cart. By clearing
everything out and creating storage solutions, we were able to give her back a beautiful and
efficient room.

Desk Organization

This is a typical built-in desk that many homes have in the kitchen/dining area. It is often the communication center for the family and is the place where papers, books, backpacks and mail
land on a daily basis. We changed the function to accommodate this family's young children. The drawers hold books and toys for the toddlers while the top drawers hold supplies for the 6 year old. The upper cupboards house the cook books and art supplies for the children. The desktop is now free for a mail in-basket and school papers that need attention by parents. The bulletin
board is also clear of clutter so that the desk can be used for important calls and messages.

Small Business Organization


This clients' desk and computer desk were covered with paper that had no "home". He is very visual, so we created binders for his current/everyday information to have at his fingertips
rather than utilize filing cabinets. We sorted all the valuable information in small piles on the floor (during picture)...and then assembled the binders, labeled and organized them on the bookshelf. We re-arranged furniture which created a very efficient and comfortable space for him to work.

Thanks again so much for your help with our home office. We don't know how our business
(and our sanity!) survived so long with it like it was. Now we can find paper when we need to make
some notes, and we don't fear a lost, buried bill or invoice. We now actually enjoy our office instead
of dread it, and  don't feel the need to close the office door when we have visitors over. We now
want to show off our wonderfully organized, professional office, not hide it! You were wonderful to

Hi Carol,

You were on my mind this morning and your organizing tips are on my mind.  I really enjoyed your
presentation and got a lot out of it.  I was at Target yesterday and now I look at items in a different light, I view them critically for organizing and function.  My goal is to do one or two drawers a day just to feel some accomplishment until I can take more time on bigger projects.  I'm also more conscious of my immense amount of time spent on the computer.  Since your talk I've given myself limitations to get it done in the early morning and not again unless critical.  You've inspired me! 

I was so pleased with all the question and answer discussion among the group.  I knew we were on a
time crunch but it was so enjoyable, I didn't want to cut it off.

Once again, we really appreciate your sharing the evening with us!
